2016 Ford Focus RS
Manufacturer uses a 320-hp EcoBoost engine.
Now is for fans of fast compact models, the long wait is finally over. Ford (February 3rd) lifted the curtain for the newly developed and highly anticipated 2016 Ford Focus RS on Tuesday. The third generation of the sporty top model of the series will set new standards in terms of driving dynamics and performance. The new high-performance series model is powered by a specially tuned EcoBoost four-cylinder, which draws well over 320 hp from 2.3 liters capacity, according to Ford. Thus ers lined up exactly at the level of a BMW 135xi M with 326 hp. The 300-hp Golf R is slightly weaker, the new Audi RS3 Sportback (367 hp) and the Mercedes A 45 AMG (360 hp) are a bit stronger. As the competitors - the BMW is also available with rear-wheel drive - familiar, the 2016 Focus RS to a four-wheel drive.
Design
The mark of a true "RS" model also includes an expressive style. The guiding principle of "form follows function" is reflected in the Focus RS by means of generous air intakes for the engine and brake cooling and aerodynamic elements resist that join the lift on the opposite front and rear axles. This also results in higher speed to a stable ride and a balance. Multifunctional Bi-xenon headlights are standard equipment. They automatically adjust the light intensity and the light angle to the driven speed, the steering angle and the distance to objects in front of the car. In the side view occur mainly the striking sill panels and wheel arches in the foreground. At the rear is dominated by a lush oversized diffuser insert that optimizes the airflow under the vehicle and reduces drag. At the same time he frames the two circular tailpipes of the sports exhaust system as well. The concise designed roof spoiler is always painted in body color.
Drive
At Ford, the all-wheel drive has a dynamic torque distribution (Dynamic Torque Vectoring) and is based on two electronically controlled differentials on the rear axle. Its special feature: they not only regulate the power distribution between the front and rear, but also manage the torque balance between the two rear wheels - this "torque vectoring" affects the handling and cornering performance of the Ford Focus RS exceptionally positive. A maximum of 70 percent of the drive power to flow to the rear axle. In extreme cases, it is completely passed there on a single wheel. To adjust the power distribution between the front and rear, left and right respectively the current driving situation, evaluates the on-board electronics 100 times per second from a wide variety of sensor signals.
